Description
The actuator uses an on-board microprocessor and decelerometer to sense the amount of braking effort being generated by the tow vehicle. It then adjusts its output and pressure to the brakes, to provide a smooth, safe stop. Because the new actuator is mounted on the trailer, it requires no wiring or installation modifications to the towing vehicle. Any appropriate tow vehicle can be used to tow a trailer equipped with the Carlisle actuator. The hand held actuator controller plugs into the cigarette lighter and sends signals through existing vehicle wiring to the actuator, providing adjustments to match load and road conditions. To tow the trailer with a different, appropriate tow vehicle, all you have to do is unplug the controller from one vehicle and plug it into the other. Any tow vehicle appropriate for the load you're towing can be used with any trailer equipped with the Carlisle trailer brake actuator. The Carlisle actuator is powered by a trailer mounted battery which is charged thanks to the battery charger built into the actuator. Power for the built-in battery charger is drawn from the tow vehicle's running light circuit. Therefore, the tow vehicle's running lights need to be on whenever the trailer is being towed.
Ease of Installation
Installs by splicing into the running lights, left and right turn signals, and ground circuits on the trailer electrical system. The In-cab control plugs into the cigarette lighter of the tow vehicle. No additional wiring required. Control can be shared by multiple vehicles that tow the same trailer.
Ease of Operation
Computer smart and user friendly. Any vehicle that can safely tow a trailer equipped with the CARLISLE actuator and power the trailer's lights can make use of the CARLISLE automatic brake system. The in-cab control is easy to operate and makes matching the performance of the trailer brakes to the brakes on the tow vehicle a simple process. Buttons are provided to either increase or decrease the amount of trailer braking (six load settings). No other adjustments are required. The in-cab control provides a visual and audible warning whenever a problem is detected with the trailer brake electrical system or with the CARLISLE actuator. Status codes displayed by the unit make system diagnosis and repair a simple process.
Ease of Maintenance
Weather tight, extruded aluminum enclosure protects the unit in all weather conditions.
Regulatory Compliant
Fully compliant with CFR-393 federal braking requirements. Trailer lights automatically illuminated whenever the brakes are applied, the manual stop button is pressed, or a breakaway condition occurs
