Wireless Electrastar Electric Brakes by Carlisle

The Controller Pendant or Commander plugs into the cigar lighter ---it is not a permanent installation.  It can be moved from truck to truck with the trailer.

The Wireless Electronic Actuator takes input from the incab brake controller. The controller`s output is sent down the cigar lighter cord and through the vehicles electrical system like a radio signal.
This signal is received by the microcontroller in the Carlisle Electrastar unit and is converted into a variable voltage output. The Electro-Magnets in the brake drum then pull against the magnet facing causing torque to be applied to a reaction arm. This arm then moves the brake shoes against the drum causing conventional braking force in the trailer.

The portability of the pendant type controller is a great benefit if the trailer is to be towed by many different vehicles. The lack of complicated installation is another reason to choose wireless.  The electric brake function is greatly enhanced with the use of the Electrastar.

The battery is used for breakaway function and is required to keep brakes applied for 15 minutes in the event of a breakaway event.  The breakaway switch is used for the obvious, as well as a quick way to troubleshoot your system. Simply pull the breakaway switch and the brakes should apply.

In the Electrastar  and Wireless systems the battery is also used to provide power during the service brake application. It is then recharged by the marker light circuit.

Head lights must be on when towing.
